Enmarket Charity Classic Raises $270,000, Bringing 5-year Total to $1 Million

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) – The Enmarket Charity Classic golf tournament returned to Savannah April 4, raising $270,000 for charity and driving the total raised over Enmarket’s 5-year sponsorship past the $1 million mark.

Achieving that milestone involved the efforts of 271 golfers and 115 companies participating in the 2024 Enmarket Charity Classic.

As in past years, this year’s proceeds will be split evenly between The 200 Club of the Coastal Empire, which is devoted to assisting the spouses and children of the area first responders killed in the line of duty, and Make-A-Wish Georgia, which grants the wishes of seriously ill children.

Sponsorship of the charity tournament is part of Enmarket’s sponsorship of the Club Car Championship, an annual pro golfing tournament at The Landings Club that ran from April 1 through April 7, 2024. The event was staged at the Marshwood and Magnolia courses at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club.

“We are excited to see our impact reach the $1 million milestone with this year’s Enmarket Charity Classic. It took a record-breaking performance from Enmarket and the communities we serve. Still, the quarter of a million dollars raised by this day-long event put us over the top,” said Matt Clements, Enmarket’s president. “The two organizations which will benefit from this funding are The 200 Club and Make-A-Wish Georgia, and Enmarket is proud to be associated with these fine efforts.”

“We are deeply grateful for the continued support from Enmarket and the community. Their commitment has been instrumental in helping us fulfill our mission of aiding the families of our fallen first responders. This significant milestone of $1 million raised over five years reflects the dedication and generosity of all involved,” said Mark Dana, president and CEO of the 200 Club.

Clements pointed out that Enmarket has a long-standing track record of supporting the community via various events, both with fund-raising and volunteer activities on the part of its more than 1,300 retail employees. The company also commits to making healthier choices available to its customers. He added that commitment is reflected in the active events Enmarket chooses to back, such as the golf tournament and the annual Enmarket Bridge Run.

Charity golf tournaments are a big part of the fundraising landscape in this country and account for $4 billion annually to benefit nonprofits, according to a GolfStatus executive writing for Nonprofit Tech for Good’s website.

ENMARKET OPENS ITS NEWEST LOCATION AT WHITE BLUFF AND EISENHOWER

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) Enmarket opened its first newly constructed store of 2024 on March 2 at the intersection of White Bluff Road and Eisenhower Drive, bringing the total count of Enmarket convenience stores to 131.

The store employs more than 25 people on the site, which previously featured a Fiat dealership before the new-to-industry construction of the store. It includes a 12-pump canopy with multiple fuel grades, including unleaded, mid-grade, premium, non-ethanol and diesel. A new Marketwash, Enmarket’s in-bay carwash brand, is situated at the east end of the property and offers customers multiple car wash package options. Using the Marketwash mobile app, customers can participate in car wash subscription packages or use this new location with an existing car wash subscription.

The company has committed to preserving a 300-year-old live oak that graces the property. Enmarket worked with Bartlett Tree Services to determine the tree’s age and conservation techniques. Bartlett Tree Services cared for the oak by pruning it, installing a lighting protection and cabling system on the property as well as soil care amendments. To highlight the majestic Savannah Live Oak, Enmarket will feature outdoor seating under the tree’s canopy.

“We are excited by this latest addition to our three-state family of stores,” said Matt Clements, president of Enmarket. “This location is ideally situated to serve the public, being along major traffic corridors and carefully planned to minimize traffic impact. We are thrilled to better serve our local military with this site that is particularly convenient to Hunter Army Airfield’s main gate.”

The 6,098-square-foot convenience store features an Eatery. The Enmarket Eatery, awarded the Convenience Foodservice Innovator to Watch by Convenience Store News in 2020, is a Southern-inspired menu that expands to include fresh, healthy, and on-the-go, quality offerings. Some breakfast offerings are burritos, platters and fish and grits. Lunch and dinner items include daily specials, made-fresh fried chicken and tenders, pecan cobblers, and even sausage gravy pizza. Fresh salads, parfaits and an array of cold sandwiches and wraps are also available. This location also serves Mooz frozen yogurt, a proprietary offering that allows customers to mix flavors and add endless toppings, all for one set price. The beverage bar is endless with fresh, high-quality Bean-2-Cup coffee, Savannah Sweet Tea® and dozens of fountain and frozen beverage choices.

A formal ribbon cutting and grand opening is planned for a later date.

Enmarket Partners with Bethesda Academy on Commercial Project

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) Enmarket and Bethesda Academy, both prominent organizations with century-plus histories in Savannah, Ga., have entered into an innovative agreement that will bring a new Enmarket store and a Bethesda Welcome Center to the Skidaway Island area.

The new store will be located at the intersection of Diamond Causeway and Ferguson Ave., and will offer a variety of convenience items, including fresh food, beverages, and fuel. The Bethesda Welcome Center will be located adjacent to the store and will provide visitors with information about the school’s history, programs, and admissions process.

Bethesda Academy, established in 1740 as an orphanage and school by renowned evangelist George Whitefield, holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating child-caring institution in the United States. Over its rich history, Bethesda Academy has educated and nurtured countless individuals, fostering a legacy of academic excellence, spiritual growth, and character development. Now, it is an independent private day school for young men in grades six through twelve.

Bethesda holds extensive acreage, some of which is already under commercial use near the planned Enmarket development, including the Kroger shopping center at the south end of Ferguson Ave. and Diamond Causeway intersection, a commercial partnership established for over 40 years. The Enmarket leasing agreement will provide a sustainable funding source allowing Bethesda Academy to offer exceptional educational programs for generations to come. The store’s design will complement Bethesda Academy’s historic campus, ensuring a harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary styles.

“We are excited to develop this property which will give our students more opportunity,” said Dr. Mike Hughes, president of Bethesda Academy. “Enmarket is a family-owned and operated business that shares Bethesda Academy’s commitment to community engagement and enriching the lives of those it serves. This partnership with Enmarket aligns seamlessly with Bethesda Academy’s values and vision.”

The mature live oaks on the adjacent Old Bethesda Road will be preserved, and future developers are forever prohibited from cutting trees over 16 inches in diameter unless approved by Chatham County’s arborist.

“As a nonprofit school, Bethesda is dependent on community support. We are proud to partner with Bethesda Academy to offer sustainable funding support for the school’s future,” said Matt Clements, president of Enmarket.

Lease proceeds will help to support the work of a learning specialist and student success center that work to develop and implement individualized learning plans for every student. Bethesda Academy recognizes the unique teaching and learning approaches that work best with boys.

Enmarket signed the lease deal with Bethesda Academy a couple of years ago. As lingering right-of-way issues have been resolved, Enmarket is prepared to begin its development in early 2024.

Colonial Terminals and Norfolk Southern Partner on Development of $100M Breakbulk Facility

Joint growth opportunity to support 20+ new jobs and further growth of a critical element of the supply chain.

(SAVANNAH, GA) On June 9, 2023, Colonial Terminals, a division of Savannah-based Colonial Group, Inc., acquired 16.7 acres of land sited adjacent to an existing Colonial Terminal riverfront facility and a Norfolk Southern rail facility. The transaction will provide Colonial Terminals the ability to develop breakbulk infrastructure along the Savannah River.

Colonial Terminals purchases land adjacent to their riverfront facility from Norfolk Southern to develop breakbulk infrastructure along the Savannah River.

“For nearly a century, Colonial Terminals has built its reputation by delivering world-class product handling services to dry and liquid bulk customers through our intermodal marine terminals,” said Ryan Chandler, president of Colonial Terminals. “Leveraging our strategic infrastructure in partnership with Norfolk Southern to extend our reach into the breakbulk space is a logical next step for our high-service culture.”

Chandler said the project should stimulate the regrowth of business that had been lost in recent years due to Georgia Port Authority’s conversion of its Ocean Terminal facility, and would support further growth in the breakbulk segment as well as provide 20+ local jobs,

The new facility, directly served by Norfolk Southern, should allow in excess of a million tons of throughput and support the development of a new wide-span berth expected to move steel, paper, and other forest products, but capable of handling any general breakbulk cargo. Breakbulk is a common method of moving goods that cannot fit in standard-size shipping containers or cargo bins. Instead, cargo is transported in bags, boxes, crates, drums and barrels, or by other methods.

“At Norfolk Southern, real estate assets are a strategic opportunity that we’re leveraging to drive smart, sustainable growth for our customers and our rail network,” said Vice President of Real Estate and Business Development Kathleen Smith. “This partnership furthers that mission, aligning our organizations to fulfill a critical supply chain need in the Southeast.”

Phase one of the project would see the construction of the berth and refurbishment of the existing warehouse facility, and phase two will support a new rail-served warehouse or outside storage complex. The berth is expected to be permitted in mid-July of 2023, with construction to commence shortly thereafter. The project is expected to be completed in late 2024 and cost more than $100 million.

Enmarket Cuts Ribbon in Richmond Hill for its 130th store

(RICHMOND HILL, Ga.) Enmarket celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting of its new Richmond Hill location at 3651 Highway 17.

A large crowd from the Richmond Hill community gathered to help celebrate their 130th store in the southeast. Guests were treated to product samplings from vendors like Red Bull, Monster Energy, Pepsi, Frito-Lay, Leopold’s Ice Cream, Ghost Energy, and free giveaways.

“We are excited to be able to better serve our customers in Bryan County,” said Matt Clements, president of Enmarket, a division of Savannah-based Colonial Group. “This new store will allow us to help motorists and shoppers in one of the fastest-growing communities in the Southeast.”

The new location is at the intersection of Highway 17 and Harris Trail Road. Enmarket stands less than two miles from Exit 90 on I-95 and Richmond Hill High School.

The Harris Trail store becomes the 130th store in Enmarket’s inventory across Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Its build is a refinement of Enmarket’s prototype, the store location next to the corporate offices off Ogeechee Road near Chatham Parkway, optimizing unused space in the original design and eliminating equipment. These adjustments make the store more efficient to build, operate and shop in, but the look and feel of the prototype have been retained.

The new store includes food service from the Eatery and Mooz frozen yogurt and offers an in-bay Marketwash car wash.

“This event benefits two remarkable nonprofit organizations, and Enmarket couldn’t be prouder of our role in helping both the 200 Club and Make-A-Wish Georgia,” said Matt Clements, Enmarket’s president. “We recognize how vital it is to be a good corporate citizen, but beyond that, events like the Enmarket Charity Classic also illustrate the joys of living in the Coastal Empire.”

“Enmarket and the Enmarket family have a long history of generous support for the 200 Club,” said Mark Dana, president of the organization, which supports the families of fallen police officers and firefighters. “This backing makes it possible for us to support the families of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our community.”

“We bring hope to our local wish kids and their families, and we couldn’t do it without the generous support of companies like Enmarket and the Enmarket Charity Classic sponsors. Our vision of granting the wish of every child in our area is only possible through the dedicated commitment of long-term supporters like Enmarket,” said Meghan Lowe, southeast development director for Make-A-Wish Georgia.

The 200 Club serves the families of fallen first responders in our area, while Make-A-Wish Georgia grants wishes of critically ill children.

Thanks to our vendor partners, the event set new records for player numbers and dollars raised, Clements said.

Participants in the Enmarket Charity Classic played the Marshwood and Magnolia courses at The Landings Golf and Athletic Club.

Veteran Carriers and Enmarket ‘Feed a Trucker’ Campaign Continues October 24

(SAVANNAH, GA) Truckers will be treated to free lunches once again when the Feed a Trucker campaign continues on Monday, October 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The campaign is a project of Veteran Carriers and Enmarket, Savannah’s largest convenience store chain.

Truckers can receive their meal by pulling into the Enmarket on Pine Barren Road and Highway 80. This is one of the convenience store chain’s commercial trucking locations and one that’s ideally suited to serving big rigs serving the Georgia Ports Authority.

Enmarket’s Robert Creaseman and Veteran Carriers’ Harry Shaw

In 2022, over 250 free Enmarket lunches have been served to truckers so far. The ‘Feed a Trucker’ campaign started in 2021 and served 425 free lunches last year to truckers. Free lunches are served bimonthly to truckers.

The Feed a Trucker project was initiated by Veteran Carriers to recognize the role that truckers played in keeping things going during the pandemic. During the most uncertain times at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, truckers kept gas in the pumps, food on the shelves and medicines in the pharmacies that serve the general public, and Veteran Carriers wanted to salute all truckers for their work under those conditions. They partnered with Enmarket as a good source of fresh, varied and convenient meals for truckers. Each month, they team up with a different group of volunteers to hand out the meals at the designated Enmarket.

Enmarket to Rebuild Downtown MLK Store in Savannah – Redesigned with Community in Mind

Enmarket to Rebuild Downtown MLK Store in Savannah – Redesigned with Community in Mind

(SAVANNAH, GA) Savannah-based Enmarket announced they will rebuild and expand their current kiosk on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near the Interstate 16 on-ramp to add a state-of-the-art convenience store with numerous features that integrate its appearance into the surrounding historic district.

The design of the new 3,522-square-foot convenience store at 405 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. will draw from the site’s transportation-related history with its proximity adjacent to the Central of Georgia Railway and Georgia State Railroad Museum.

The non-traditional store will include, among other things, an outdoor dining patio, a green space, and a bike service area. Enmarket will contract with a local artist to design and paint a community-themed mural on one of the exterior walls.

The rebuilt outlet will be accessible to trolleys and other vehicles critical to Savannah’s downtown tourism industry and will have four multi-product dispensers with gasoline and diesel offering.

“We are excited to replace this kiosk with a wonderful new building in the historic district,” said Brett Giesick, President of Enmarket. “The design and concept reflect the direction we are taking in the community which is to provide a more modern, customer-friendly store with a focus on healthy eating and living.”

The new store will feature Enmarket products already available at other full-service stores, including fountain drinks, “chillen” frozen beverages, bean-to-cup coffee, and local craft beer. The location will include Enmarket’s proprietary kitchen concept, The Eatery, featuring its signature breakfast biscuits and antibiotic-free, never-frozen chicken. Fresh grab-and-go sandwiches, salads, parfaits, and more will also be prepared on site. This will be the only convenience store to offer all of these options on the western end of downtown Savannah.

“This is a one-of-a-kind location for Enmarket,” continued Giesick. “A diverse customer base of downtown residents, commuters, local businesses, SCAD students and faculty, and tourists were all carefully considered when we selected this store design and the products and services that we will offer.”

When it opens in the spring of 2019, the new store is expected to add about 15 jobs. The current kiosk will close in mid-December for reconstruction.

Enmarket Assumes Operations of Joker Joe’s Truck Stop in S.C.

Enmarket Assumes Operations of Joker Joe’s Truck Stop in S.C.

(HARDEEVILLE, SC/SAVANNAH, GA) Enmarket, a convenience store chain with operations in three states, has purchased Joker Joe’s Truck Stop in Hardeeville, S.C., a move that expands the company’s reach in a key market that extends from Savannah to Charleston, S.C.

Savannah-based Enmarket will assume operations of Joker Joe’s on Thursday, Sept. 6. In addition to growing the retailer’s services and territory served, the purchase will significantly enlarge its diesel fuel business.

“This acquisition is a strategic move for us as we have plans to expand our diesel business through new to industry construction,” said Brett Giesick, Enmarket’s president. “But more than that, it is another example of our commitment to further build our brand in the Southeast by filling in the geography from Savannah to Charleston with a strong Enmarket presence in convenience stores, restaurants, and truck stops.”

The new Enmarket store is located just north of Savannah on Interstate 95 at exit 8 in Hardeeville, SC. The busy interchange at US Highway 278 serves as the gateway to Hilton Head Island and the South Carolina Lowcountry.

The 13,000-square-foot facility, which includes nine diesel lanes, will remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week while the building and nine-acre property go through a significant remodel.

Improvements will include an enlarged trucker’s lounge, showers, truck scales and laundry equipment as well as a resurfaced parking lot and overnight parking for over-the-road and RV drivers. The updated convenience store will feature freshly prepared hot and cold grab-and-go food options, frozen yogurt, state-of-the-art bean-to-cup coffee brewers and an expanded cooler and beer cave. Enmarket will also continue to be an area destination for fireworks, which is what Joker Joe’s was best known for by many locals and travelers.

As part of the remodel, Enmarket will add Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, an award-winning Baja-style fast-casual Mexican restaurant franchise that features plenty of seating and a full bar. Fuzzy’s Taco Shops have more than 100 franchises nationwide. It marks Enmarket’s first fast-casual style restaurant, with plans to open additional Fuzzy’s locations beginning in 2019.

“The executives at Fuzzy’s Taco Shop are thrilled to introduce the concept to the Savannah area by way of Enmarket,” Giesick continued. “The brand originated in Texas and earned a cult-like following behind a high-quality product served at an affordable price, which makes it an ideal fit for Enmarket and our customers.”

Enmarket currently operates 122 convenience stores and 14 quick-serve restaurants throughout Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina and recently doubled its presence in the region with the acquisition of 34 E-Z Shop convenience stores in the Palmetto State and 34 Clyde’s Markets in southeast Georgia.

Enmarket Assumes Operations of 34 E-Z Shop Convenience Stores in S.C.

(SAVANNAH, GA) Enmarket has assumed operations of 34 E-Z Shop convenience stores located throughout South Carolina. The Savannah-based company recently bought the stores from Brabham Oil Company, Inc., based in Bamberg, S.C.

The purchase includes Brabham Oil’s wholesale fuel distribution company as well as eleven Subway franchises. It marks the second major purchase in recent months that, together, have doubled Enmarket’s store count.

“The addition of these 34 locations has enhanced our presence in South Carolina and will further build our brand in the Southeast,” said Brett Giesick, Enmarket’s president. “But more than that, our parent company, Colonial Oil, and Brabham Oil are both fourth generation family-owned businesses that have built strong reputations with both customers and employees. We understand the trust and commitment we took on with this purchase and will continue to build on it.”

Both companies have ties that date back to 1929 when Clarence M. Brabham opened a small wholesale petroleum business as a reseller for Colonial Oil. Brabham Oil served as a wholesale jobber for major fuel brands such as Shell, BP, Phillips 66 and Chevron for several decades.

In 1999, Brabham Oil recognized the need for private label gasoline and launched the Horizon brand. Today EZ-Shop convenience stores and Horizon fuel are among the largest and most recognized chains in South Carolina.

“The friendships established by this company with customers and suppliers over the years have been vital to its success and will always be treasured,” said Brabham Oil president Brab McCully. “We look forward to the family business tradition being continued by the good folks at Enmarket.”

Enmarket assumed ownership and operations of the stores on April 19th. Rebranding of the locations from EZ-Shop to Enmarket will begin later this year and is expected to conclude in 2019. The purchase brings Enmarket’s store count to 122 convenience stores and 14 quick serve restaurants.
