Speros Adds Employees to Expand Customer Support

(SAVANNAH, GA) Speros, a full-service technology company headquartered in Savannah, announces three new employees have joined the firm: Wes Christain, IT technician; Mallory Teeple, carrier management specialist; and Jordan A. Winters, sales administrator.

“We are pleased to be able to bring on these new team members to serve the increasing needs of our clients and facilitate the growth of the Speros organization,” said Susan Speros, chief executive officer. “Each has the training and experience to seamlessly integrate with the Speros team and offer the prompt personal attention customers expect from us.”

As an IT (information technology) technician, Christain will be responsible for providing remote and on-site IT support, as well as for installation and configuration of network equipment and servers.

The Guyton, Ga., native previously served as IT manager at WSAV-TV and earned a bachelor of business administration in information systems at Georgia Southern University, an associate’s degree as a network specialist at Ogeechee Technical College and Microsoft Certified Professional and Network+ certification from Ogeechee Technical College. He is married with two children.

“This company is growing quickly, and I’m happy that I can be a part of this dedicated team of professionals at such an exciting time,” Christain said. “I will continue to use my previous experiences in IT to assist our customers in a friendly and professional manner. At the same time, I look forward to learning new skills from our knowledgeable staff at Speros.”

As carrier management specialist, Teeple will be responsible for negotiating, ordering and implementing carrier services as well as auditing existing services and carrier invoices. The Savannah native previously served as project manager for Asset Black and owned and operated a sign sales and manufacturing business in Florida for more than 20 years. She attended the University of Georgia and graduated from Savannah Country Day School.

As sales administrator, Winters will be responsible for assisting the Speros Sales team with project management and customer service. The Richmond Hill, Ga., native previously served as general manager for Cowabunga, Inc., and earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Armstrong State University. She is married with two children and enjoys cooking, reading and traveling.

New Members Named to Park Place Outreach’s Street Outreach Team

(SAVANNAH, GA) Park Place Outreach Youth Emergency Shelter has added two team members to its Street Outreach Program, Jamal Choice and Pamela Franklin.

The Street Outreach Program (SOP) finds and offers assistance to Chatham Country’s runaways, homeless and street youth. Choice and Franklin will coordinate with local agencies and programs to meet the needs of these teens and young adults, as well as advocate for them in the surrounding community.

The SOP has received funding intermittently since 1997, but Park Place Outreach recently received a three-year annual grant of $121,654 to re-fund the program, which serves teens and young adults up to age 21 through counseling and a drop-in center.

Choice, who is working toward a master’s degree in epidemiology from Georgia Southern University, is also involved with Collegiate 100 Men of America, Habitat For Humanity, NAACP, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and the National Pan-Hellenic Council in addition to running his own barbecue business “The Firepit.”

“I have mentored youth for the past seven years and am really excited to continue pursuing my passion for working with kids through Park Place Outreach,” said Choice.

Franklin, who is pursuing a major in child and family development from Georgia Southern, will serve as the promoting safe and stable family case manager for Park Place.

“I am thrilled that Park Place Outreach has given me the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young at-risk youth,” Franklin said.

National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force Announces New President/CEO

(POOLER, GA) The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott W. Loehr as President and CEO. Scott will succeed Henry Skipper who announced his intended retirement earlier this year after over nine successful and meaningful years as head of the Mighty Eighth. As CEO, Loehr will be responsible for ensuring the stories of the heroes of the Eighth will not only continue to be told but will also be introduced to new generations.

Scott Loehr brings more than thirty years of experience leading cultural organizations, particularly public-history agencies, to the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force. He most recently served as CEO of the Delaware Historical Society, where he led a successful multi-million-dollar capital campaign and introduced several new exhibitions and education programs on Delaware history.

“I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve as the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force’s next President and CEO. The museum’s mission is so important, so compelling, and I look forward to working with the board, staff and constituents to engage more and more people with the Mighty Eighth history,” stated Loehr.

A native Floridian, Loehr holds a B.A. in history from Florida State University and earned an M.A. in History, with concentrations in Museum Studies and Historic Preservation, from Colorado State University. (SAVANNAH, GA) Nina Gompels, owner and operator of five Savannah area McDonald’s restaurants, was named as the Rotary Club of Savannah‘s new president. On Monday, June 26, the Rotary gavel was passed to Gompels from outgoing president Camille Russo, chief financial officer at Alta Innovations. This will mark the first time the club will have had two consecutive women presidents.

After graduating from Savannah Country Day School, Gompels earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University in business administration. She cherished her Georgia Southern ties, and her first job after college was with the GSU foundation.

Today, Gompels owns five McDonald’s restaurants in the Savannah area and employs more than 200 people.

Gompels serves on the board of the Savannah Economic Development Authority, the Savannah Area McDonald’s Operator Association, and the Ameris Bank community board.

The Rotary Club of Savannah includes 225 community leaders and volunteers. Over the past 103 years, the club has championed local and regional developments that include completing the road to Tybee Island, improving the Savannah River for commercial traffic, enhancing the Dixie Highway system in southeast Georgia and building bridges over the Savannah and Altamaha Rivers. Most recently in recognition of the 100th anniversary, the club raised funds and constructed an all-accessible playground in Forsyth Park.

The Rotary Club of Savannah also sponsored the organization of new Rotary clubs in Augusta, Brunswick, Statesboro, Blackshear and Savannah West. Furthering the goals of Rotary International, the club has supported wartime relief efforts, student scholarships, polio eradication and other global health initiatives.
