Carriage Trade Public Relations® Marks 25th Anniversary

(SAVANNAH, GA) Carriage Trade Public Relations®, Inc. observed its 25th anniversary on March 6, marking a quarter of a century of service to the region’s small business community.

As a lead-up to the anniversary, the company’s owner and president Marjorie Young will publish “Reputation Matrix,” a step-by-step guidebook to help small businesses increase their visibility, credibility and positive word-of-mouth in the community and online. Once released, the book will be available on Amazon.

“I started my own company after helping turn my father’s publishing and printing company around. I learned the power of public relations and wanted to make it accessible to other business owners,” said Young.

“Throughout the 25 years, it has been a mission of mine to help small business owners realize that PR creates powerful word of mouth in the community and online. According to Nielsen, Over 90% of referrals and new business comes from word of mouth, PR helps to create that positive buzz,” said Young.

“In 1998, Google launched, and that was a game-changer, realizing everything can go online,” Young said. “We were really the first in the region to understand you could put up a press release and have people find it and read it. You know, it’s easy to forget these tools weren’t always there and that even when they did become available, people had to learn how to use them.”

In addition to growing a company and pioneering the power of the internet, Young has been active in the community, having served as president of the Small Business Chamber, chair of the Small Business Council and chair of Savannah SCORE. Other past and present board involvement include Leadership Savannah, Hospice Savannah, Dawn’s Daughter Leadership Academy, Small Business Development Center Advisory Board and Rotary Club of Savannah.

She has also won numerous awards; Business Advocate of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year from the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, Small Business of the Year and Savannah Community Star Award from the Savannah Morning News and Buy Local Advocate of the Year from Buy Local Savannah.

She holds a certification in crisis communications from the Public Relations Society of America and hosts frequent PR boot camps and webinars to empower business owners and nonprofit organizations to take control of their reputation, brand and message. Community Headlines, the local NewsWire, was launched in 1997. Her online business education show, Open For Business was launched in 2000.

Carriage Trade is currently in a collaboration with Cecilia Russo Marketing, a work-share arrangement that enables both principals to improve their work/life balance. Cynthia Cradduck was named a junior partner to both firms three years ago.

Young is a graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in journalism and a minor in fine art. In her spare time, Marjorie enjoys hiking and painting, and in 2016 she hiked the Camino de Santiago in Spain, a 500-mile trek. Her daughter just graduated from Georgia Tech with a Ph.D. in Robotics Engineering.

Roto-Rooter Plumbers of Savannah Celebrates 45th Anniversary

Roto-Rooter Plumbers of Savannah Celebrates 45th Anniversary

(SAVANNAH, GA) Roto-Rooter Plumbers of Savannah, a locally owned full-service industrial, commercial and residential plumbing company, is pleased to announce its 45th anniversary of serving customers in Savannah and surrounding areas.

“In 1974, we bought the Roto-Rooter franchise rights in Savannah and 10 nearby counties,” said Sherry Daniel, CEO of Roto-Rooter Plumbers. “Along the way, I learned to love the business side of things and realized this business was my destiny.”

Sherry Daniel, Roto Rooter Plumbers of Savannah

After being a co-owner for 28 years, Daniel came out of semi-retirement during the recession of 2008 to rebuild the business. She would become its sole owner a year later.

Today, Roto-Rooter Plumbers of Savannah has fourteen service trucks and 21 full-time employees, including twelve masterful plumbers with more than 130 years of combined experience. The company also offers career pathways for employees, hiring potential plumbers who are looking to learn the trade, then training them alongside master plumbers.

“I dream one day that this type of service will be here when I am long gone,” said Daniel. “I’m planning for a future where our team members will be able to lead the company forward.”

Daniel also believes in placing the interests of clients above the bottom line. Her business motto is: “Be here tomorrow to stand behind the work we did today.”

“From the person who answers a customer’s initial call, to the plumber or technician who performs the work, I insist that each member of our staff treats each client as our most special customer,” she said.

Daniel also has put her business philosophy to work in Roto-Rooter’s commitment to serving others. From Toys for Tots, to filling the needs of veterans, to supporting a women’s’ shelter, to organizing and supporting blood drives, Daniel has ensured that her company serves the needs of the community.

“We’ve participated in a radiothon for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for the last four years and through that raised $60,000 each year for sick kids,” she said. “We’ve donated thousands of free plumbing services to Park Place Outreach, and we are holding a fundraiser in February of 2019 to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of the Coastal Empire. I’m also excited about a new partnership we’re starting with Dawn Baker and her charity, Dawn’s Daughter, which helps empower young women. We are always looking for new ways to give back to this community that has been so good to us.”

After 45 years at the company’s helm, Daniel finds the prospects of continuing to grow the business both surprising and exciting.

“Over the next few years we will be expanding services, growing into new territories and offering more types of services,” she said. “We will continue developing strategies in water conservation and green technologies as well as investing in researching and coordinating the introduction of new products and processes to southeast Georgia.”

Porsche 70th Anniversary Celebration Held at Peacock Automotive

Porsche 70th Anniversary Celebration Held at Peacock Automotive

(JASPER COUNTY, S.C.) Peacock Automotive brought together sports car lovers, local dignitaries and others from across Coastal Georgia and the South Carolina Lowcountry to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Porsche’s line of premium automobiles.

“The 70th anniversary was an essential reminder and celebration of the brand history and heritage and the community of owners and enthusiasts who share our passion,” said Warner Peacock, president and CEO of Peacock Automotive. “It was also a unique opportunity for Porsche enthusiasts to celebrate together and participate in a global event in typical Porsche fashion.”

Guests were invited to celebrate “Sportscar Together Day” — an event that featured an international twist — at Porsche of Hilton Head in the Peacock Auto Mall on Highway 278 in Hardeeville, S.C.

Members of the local chapter of the Porsche Club of America, Coastal Empire Region, displayed more than a dozen classic Porsche automobiles to convey the decades of the brand’s evolution.

The Porsche brand was born in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1948 when the company’s founder, Ferdinand “Ferry” Porsche created a prototype two-seat open sports car designed as the 356 “No. 1” Roadster. What may be Porsche’s best-known model, the Porsche 911, was launched in 1963. By the beginning of 2018, more than one million 911’s had been manufactured.

Peacock Automotive’s 70-anniversary festivities included a block party featuring Bavarian-inspired food from Skull Creek Boathouse and non-alcoholic refreshments, along with entertainment by a DJ and a Porsche “birthday cake” to celebrate the brand’s history and passion, which guests were invited to enjoy in the early afternoon.

“With an event of this magnitude it was important to highlight the global nature of this program,” Peacock said. “Sportscar Together Day was our first global celebration, fueled by events around the world along with active online communities and social media. But, it was primarily an opportunity to get together as a community at local Porsche Centers to celebrate the thrills of being sports car owners and enthusiasts.”

To that end, devotees of the brand were asked to share their experiences online using the #SportsCarTogether on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat.

Further festivities included door prizes throughout the event and test drives of all the Peacock Porsche vehicles.

Cecilia Russo Marketing Celebrates 10 Years of Business in Savannah

Cecilia Russo Marketing Celebrates 10 Years of Business in Savannah

(SAVANNAH, GA) Founded in 2008, Cecilia Russo Marketing celebrates 10 years in business, helping organizations increase their visibility locally, regionally and nationally through reputation management strategies in coastal Georgia and the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Cecilia Russo Turner

“Looking back, I often think about the risk I took of launching a business during the worst recession ever, but I dug my feet in, held my head up and kept going kept swimming,” Turner said. “And I went from being a one-woman-shop to now having two full-time employees and 12 contract employees.”

Cecilia Russo Marketing works hard to fulfill the public relations, community relations, marketing, reputation management and philanthropic goals for emerging and high visibility companies.

“Although public relations is one of our strongest services, and I love it – – I won’t offer a list of clients because we don’t normally disclose the companies who hire us,” said Turner. “It’s our responsibility to help manage their reputations and social media platforms, share their good news with the public, encourage their civic involvement, provide executive counsel and assist with signature events. ”

On the fundraising side of her business, Turner has raised millions of dollars in our community and spearheaded many projects and successful campaigns for other non-profit organizations such as the Savannah-Chatham public school system, Benedictine Military School, SAFE Shelter, Inc., American Red Cross of Southeast and Coastal Georgia, Savannah Technical College and Leadership Southeast Georgia.

“Looking back over the past decade, I am proudest of the opportunities to help organizations achieve their goals,” said Turner. “Perhaps the most striking example, was when I was working with the Veterans Council of Chatham County and the citizens of Savannah, Chatham County and all around the world to erect Savannah’s World War II Monument on West River Street.”

Turner provided strategic direction and major gift solicitation for the most successful fundraising campaign ever held by the veterans council for the outdoor sculpture “A World Apart,” which honors Chatham County’s veterans of the Second World War. It was dedicated in 2010 after almost a decade of planning and development.

In 2013, the Junior Achievement Small Business Hall of Fame named Turner as its Volunteer of the Year, and in 2016 the Susan G. Komen Society of Coastal Georgia recognized her as the “Biggest BigWig of All Time” after she led a breast cancer fundraising campaign to record-setting levels.

Looking ahead to the next decade and beyond, Turner said she expects to continue to nurture what she calls the “strength of good relationships” to help businesses develop their potential and cultivate opportunities for growth by collaboration.

Turner is a graduate of Leadership Southeast Georgia, a five-month program designed to help community leaders promote positive growth and quality of life in southeast Georgia. Her volunteerism includes memberships and board positions on the Rotary Club of Savannah, Horizons Savannah and the Kiwanis Club of Skidaway Island.

She has previously served on the boards of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Coastal Empire and Senior Citizens, Inc., and has volunteered on behalf of Junior Achievement of Georgia, St. Vincent’s Academy and the Catholic Diocese of Savannah.

Turner, a graduate of St. Vincent’s Academy and the University of Georgia, is married to Bob Turner.

“I want to make southeast and coastal Georgia and the South Carolina Lowcountry a better place to live and work,” she said. “By helping other businesses tell their story and build brand recognition with key publics, we can help attract the best talent and the best companies to our community.”

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Coastal Empire Fifth Annual Wine Women & Shoes Fundraiser

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Coastal Empire Announces Fifth Annual Wine Women & Shoes Fundraiser Set for May 3

(SAVANNAH, GA) The Fifth Annual Wine Women & Shoes fundraiser will be held on Thursday, May 3 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Savannah, located at 2 W Bay St. This major fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Coastal Empire benefits families of seriously ill and injured children.

“Last year we raised more than $150 thousand and we have worked hard to help make this year’s fundraiser supporting the Ronald McDonald House our best ever,” said Bill Sorochak, executive director. “We are expecting a sell-out crowd of more than 600 guests for a fabulous evening of sip-sational wines, fabulous shopping, charming ‘Shoe Guys’ and savory foods.”

Kicking off at 6:00 p.m., VIP ticket holders will be allowed early access to the Hyatt’s Harborside Room (the glass room on River Street) to peruse items for sale and get first dibs on the coveted Keys-to-the-Closet and Key-to-the-Cellar raffles. Then, at 7:00 p.m., the doors will open for everyone else to join the festivities.

“We say that this event can change your shoes but its real mission is to change lives,” Sorochak added. “One hundred percent of the funds raised in the Coastal Empire stays here to help our residents cope with the stress and expense of daily living while trying to be close and emotionally strong for their child. In 2017, we provided 4,270 family night stays at the Ronald McDonald House. An event like this can provide 1,600 of those family-night stays.”

Sorochak projects proceeds from this year’s Wine Women & Shoes may top previous years due, in part, to the continued support from local McDonald’s restaurant owners and operators as well as the dedication of partners since the event’s inception – Ameris Bank, Dr. Corinne Howington of Low Country Dermatology and Cecilia Russo Marketing.

Tickets are now on sale and sponsor opportunities are also available. For tickets or more information, contact Bill Sorochak at bill@rmhccoastalempire.org or visit http://www.winewomenandshoes.com/savannah.

MORE ABOUT WINE WOMEN & SHOES
Wine Women & Shoes is the brainchild of Napa Valley vintner, Elaine Honig. While chatting with a girlfriend about the growing popularity of wine and food pairing events, they jokingly said, “Wine and shoe pairings would be a lot more fun!” And they were right. WW&S events are now in 50 cities across the country, and they have raised more than $22,000,000 for women and children’s causes. Wine Women & Shoes fundraisers create an opportunity for partnerships between charities, wineries, shoe and accessory retailers, corporate sponsors and women in the community. In addition to raising money, these events raise awareness for charities, increase sales for wineries and retail partners, and provide community outreach for corporate sponsors. Russo’s Seafoods Celebrates 70 Years in Business

Russo’s Seafoods Celebrates 70 Years in Business

(SAVANNAH, GA) The year was 1946. The United Nations General Assembly held its first meeting in London. In The U.S., the Atomic Energy Commission was established, and in Savannah, Charles J. Russo Sr. opened a seafood business with his wife Antoinette. Now, seventy years later, Russo’s Seafoods of Savannah is still known as one of the finest distributors of wholesale/retail Georgia white shrimp, blue crab, fish and fresh quality seafood in the southeast.

The founder of Russo’s Seafoods, Charles J. Russo, Sr., was introduced to the seafood business by Louis Rayola. Having just graduated from Benedictine Military School in 1931, Russo Sr. was offered a job by Rayola after a chance meeting at the Post Office where Russo, Sr. had just applied for a position. While working at Rayola’s fish market, Russo, Sr. also worked part time at the Post Office until he was sent overseas as a chief petty officer during the war.

After returning from the war, Charles J. Russo, Sr. and his wife, Antoinette Russo, opened up Russo’s Seafoods when Antoinette’s mother lent them the money to get started. The oldest son, Russo, Jr. joined the family business after graduating from Benedictine Military School in 1961 and briefly working on a Salmon boat in Ketchikan, Alaska. Eight years later, this family business had grown so much, they relocated the market from its original location at the corner of Waters Ave and 31st Ln into a larger facility, located at the corner of Abercorn and 40th St where it remains today.

Since opening 70 years ago, Russo’s Seafoods has epitomized its motto, “There is a Difference,” by offering the highest quality of seafood, prepared in the cleanest and most sanitary surroundings in the southeast. Local customers enjoy a showcase of freshly prepared shrimp, scallops, oysters, crabmeat, and assorted fish, cut to order. The business also carries a full line of frozen seafood and ships overnight to customers nationwide.

The Russo’s Seafoods Restaurant, which opened in 2006, is located next door to the business, in an old home the family restored and decorated in a nautical style. There, guests feel more like family than patrons and are surrounded by fishnets, ships’ wheels and Russo family pictures, most prominently highlighting founders Charles Jr. and his fishing and shrimping pals. Lunch is served daily Tuesday through Saturday with mouth-watering dishes that feature fresh crab, famous family recipe crab stew, shrimp and any fish can be made to order with advance notice.

“The fact that our business has survived for 70 years is a testament to the loyalty of my customers,” said Russo Jr. “We owe our success to them and the beautiful coastal waterways we live on. Savannah is truly a one-of-a-kind place.”

The public is invited to stop by the restaurant, located at 209 E 40th St, Savannah, GA 31401, to share a story or a sign a beautiful coastal print which will be hung in the store to commemorate the past 70 years.

SAFE Shelter Observes 35 Years of Helping Domestic Violence Victims

(SAVANNAH, GA) Savannah’s only emergency shelter dedicated to victims of intimate partner violence is proud to announce its 35th year in serving the Savannah area. SAFE Shelter Center for Domestic Violence Services’ mission is to prevent domestic violence, protect victims and promote a positive change in lives, families and the community.

In the entire history of the organization, no one who has been actively involved with the services or programs at SAFE Shelter has ever died at the hands of his or her abuser. The Shelter is open 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, providing safe, confidential services to all victims of domestic violence.

Originally called Savannah Area Family Emergency Shelter, Inc., the organization was established in 1979 by four local women: Lucy Brannan, Norma Brewin, Harris Lentini and Caroline Armstrong. Their vision was to provide a safe place for victims and their children who had to leave their homes to escape the violence. Through these women’s hard work and determination, SAFE Shelter officially opened its doors on September 15, 1980, providing a temporary home for those dealing with intimate violence.

SAFE Shelter provides confidential emergency services to victims of intimate partner violence and their children, along with meals, clothing and shelter. Other services include: case management; assistance with temporary protective orders and courtroom advocacy; counseling and support groups; children’s programs; outreach programs; bi-lingual services; follow-up programs; and 24-hour crisis line, maintained by trained staff (912.629.8888).

In recognition of its 35th anniversary, SAFE Shelter asks the community to join in celebrating these milestones:

• SAFE Shelter is the largest domestic violence shelter outside the greater Atlanta area.
• Since opening its doors in 1980, SAFE Shelter has provided temporary, emergency shelter to over 19,000 victims of domestic violence and their children. In 2014, SAFE Shelter assisted more than 800 women and children locally.
• In 2001, SAFE Shelter opened new 48-bed shelter to accommodate its expanding needs.
• SAFE Shelter has state-of-the-art security surveillance equipment, partnerships with local law enforcement and a dedicated staff to keep families safe.
• The shelter is certified through the Criminal Justice Coordinating Commission and is a United Way Agency.
• No fees are charged to any victim receiving services and/or shelter from SAFE Shelter.

“SAFE Shelter Center for Domestic Violence Services has evolved over the past 35 years to meet the ever-changing needs of our community,” said Cheryl Branch, executive director. “As we continue to evolve over the next 35 years, we will strive to refocus and renew our vision, with the community’s support, in providing comprehensive services and outreach for all victims of domestic violence.”

The organization also recently rebranded and updated its logo in conjunction with its 35th anniversary and to better convey the array of comprehensive services for victims at the shelter, those who have exited the shelter and for those who do not require shelter but need legal advocacy.
