World Canine Disc Championship Qualifier February 24-26, 2017
To Benefit Local Pet Rescue, Islands High School and Homeless Veterans
(Savannah, Georgia) – It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s flying dogs…Did you know that dogs can fly? The most talented canine athletes in the Southeastern US will take to the skies in Whitemarsh Island when Skyhoundz, the largest disc-dog competition series in the world, holds its 2017 Canine Disc World Championship Qualifier Friday through Sunday, February 24th – 26th, 9:00am to 5:00pm, at Islands High School, 170 Whitemarsh Island Road. Canines can be seen, literally, jumping for joy.
“This Classic Disc Dogathon Qualifying event is only given to one city per state,” said Chief Master Sergeant USAF James Fox of the Border Pawtrol Disc Dog Team, one of the event organizers, along with TailsSpin Pet Food and Accessories, its parent company, Bentley’s Pet Stuff, and Islands High School. “Because of this, this event will be attracting competitors from many surrounding states who are trying to qualify for the World Championship.” Many of the canine competitors have been rescued from local area animal shelters.
Attendance is free of charge. Families and friends are invited to enjoy this unique event and applaud these talented canine athletes.
At the event, pet food donations will be collected to help homeless Veterans with pets in Savannah and Chatham County, through the help of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 660.
Pet rescue agencies, such as One Love Animal Rescue, Save-A-Life, Coastal Pet rescue, and FACTS, will be at the event, showing off pets looking for their forever homes.
National pet food vendors scheduled to participate include Blue Buffalo, Natural Balance, Precise Pet, Fussie Cat, Lotus, Nutrisource, Pro-Pac Ultimates, Nulo, Nature’s Logic, and Zignature. Local vendors, such as the Wilmington Island Farmers’ Market, Hipster Hound, Todd B’s Honey, as well as the Islands High School’s Veterinary Science students, boasting their latest hypo-allergenic dog treats, are also scheduled to attend.
Proceeds raised at the event will be donated to VFW Post 660 homeless veteran outreach, participating local pet rescue organizations, and Islands High School’s Veterinary Science program.
Islands High School is one of the few high schools in the entire state of Georgia that boasts a Veterinary Science Program. Students can develop skills to become employed as a Veterinary Assistant, upon graduation and completion of the course examination.
