For Immediate Release: Twenty Adult Scout Leaders Complete Outdoor Training

(Brunswick, GA) On Friday, August 22nd-Sunday August 24, 2014, twenty adult Boy Scout leaders and volunteers completed Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills training at Camp Tolochee in Brunswick, GA. Upon completion of this hands-on course, leaders should feel comfortable leading outdoor activities and teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class Rank.  This course is also recommended for adult Venture Crew leaders who run outdoor programs.

This hands-on course, which was taught by Bruce Anderson, uses the Boy Scout Handbook and Guide to Safe Scouting to teach the following practical outdoor skills:

  • The American Flag
  • First Aid for Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class
  • Hiking Basics, Camp and Pack Basics, Leave No Trace Camping
  • Tents and Shelters, Ropes and Lashing, Woods Tools
  • Camp Fires and Cooking
  • Measuring, Compass, Orienteering and Map Reading
  • Animal & Plant Identification
  • Campfire programs, skits, and songs
  • EDGE Training
