Habitat Savannah to Dedicate its 127th Home
(SAVANNAH, Georgia) – Savannah’s Habitat for Humanity, along with its homeowner families, partners and volunteers, invites the public to join them as they dedicate a Habitat Savannah home, located at 808 West 42nd Street, on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 11 a.m. A brief dedication ceremony and house blessing will conclude with Sonja Capers, the new homeowner, receiving keys to an affordable house that was constructed largely through the labor of 400 volunteers.
Habitat Savannah is the premier area institution responsible for rehabilitating and constructing affordable housing. A proven long-term solution to poverty, Habitat’s model emphasizes collaboration and community engagement. The organization’s partnership model offers deserving, hard-working families a hand-up.
An array of partners, ranging from businesses, organizations and local government, to the family, donate the capital and the labor used which lowers the cost of Habitat’s houses to an affordable level. Financial support for the 808 West 42nd Street property was provided by the Stewart Huston Fund, Jack Neises Memorial Fund, Historic Savannah Foundation, National Trust for Historic Preservation (Moe Grant), U.S. Green Building Council, Georgia Chapter, Lynch and Associates Architects, Bouhan, Falligant Attorneys and Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church , as well as a whole host of partners including the City of Savannah Department of Housing (HOME program), Savannah College of Art and Design, Gaster Lumber, EnviroFoam Insulation, Savannah Drywall, Valspar, and Home Depot.
