COASTAL EMPIRE COUNCIL ANNOUNCES 2014 EXECUTIVE BOARD

(Savannah, Georgia)  The Coastal Empire Council, Boy Scouts of America announces its new Executive Board Members for 2014, serving the council’s 11-county region.  New members include Darron Alvord, DDS, Ben Barksdale, Jim Dewberry, MD, John Horton, Helen Johnson, Anthony Martinez, Aaron Rawlings and Matt Schivera.   Tom Cardiff, Scout Executive for the Coastal Empire Council said, “I am very impressed by the scope of talent offered by this year’s Executive Board.  We are looking forward to 2014 as an excellent year of growth for Boy Scouts!”

John McKinnon, co-owner of Lo Cost Pharmacy is the incoming Executive Board President.  Having been involved in Scouting since the late 1960’s, Mr. McKinnon is an Eagle Scout, as are his three sons.  “Through personal experiences with my own sons and as a scoutmaster, I have seen firsthand the positive impact of Scouting on individuals and the community at large.”

When asked to share his plans and goals for the Coastal Empire Council this year, here is what Mr. McKinnon had to say, “Camping, training in outdoor skills & high adventure are obvious benefits, but the true essence of Scouting lies in teaching young people to make good decisions and to be confident that they can achieve their goals.  It takes dedicated volunteers to make that happen.  My goal is to insure that our Council’s Scouting Units get the support they need in order to provide quality programs for youth.”

Scout Executive, Tom Cardiff stated, “We are very happy to have John McKinnon on board to lead our council for the next two years. John is a man of integrity who loves and believes in Scouting; his dedication and expertise will insure that we continue to grow in both strength and numbers.”

Established in 1920, the Coastal Empire Council, Boy Scouts of America serves approximately 7000 young men and women annually in coastal Georgia though traditional Scouting, inner city Scout Reach programs, Learning for Life, and Explorer Post programs. The Boy Scouts of America provides the nation’s foremost youth program for character development and values-based leadership training, which helps young people be “Prepared. For Life.™”
