WILD CARD GIVEN TO JAN-MICHAEL GAMBILL

Posted by mysavannah on April 26, 2010

(SAVANNAH, GA) Jan-Michael Gambill given wild card spot in the 2010 Tail USTA $50,000 Savannah Challenger which kicks off at The Landings on Skidaway Island. May 1-9 at the Franklin Creek Tennis Center, www.savannahchallenger.com

Some of professional tennis’ biggest rising stars will descend upon Savannah May 1 to participate in the 2010 Tail USTA $50,000 Savannah Challenger. Among the players competing in the prestigious tournament, which takes place May 1-9 at The Landings on Skidaway Island, are Taylor Dent, who is staging a comeback after a back injury sidelined much of his career, and Jesse Levine, a standout from the 2009 Savannah Challenger who went on defeat 24th-ranked Marat Safin at Wimbledon.

The players competing in the main draw, who hail from countries including the United States, Japan, Argentina, Australia and Great Britain, are vying to win highly coveted ATP ranking points in addition to prize money. The Savannah Challenger takes place on the clay courts of the Franklin Creek Tennis Center and is considered a warm-up for the French Open, which begins May 24 on the clay courts of Roland Garros Stadium in Paris.

Dent, who resides in Bradenton, Florida, has battled back problems on and off for the past decade and spent six months in a full body cast in 2007 following surgeries. The 28 year old began staging his comeback in 2008, and in 2009, he climbed 803 ranking positions, posting the biggest jump of any player in the top 100 from the previous year. Dent went on to compile a 17-6 record in Challengers, taking two titles.

Levine, 22, who resides in Boca Raton, Florida, won seven matches in 2008 at the ATP level and won a Challenger title to finish with a year-end best ranking. One month after defeating Safin at Wimbledon and finishing in the 32nd round in 2009, Levine went on to beat another top-50 player, this time defeating No. 48 Philipp Petzschner at the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport, Rhode Island.

Also returning to the Savannah Challenger this year is Carstan Ball, 22, who along with his 2009 doubles partner Travis Rettenmaier, won the tournament’s doubles competition. Ball currently has an ATP ranking of 120. In August 2009, Ball, who resides in Newport Beach, California, advanced to his first ATP World Tour final in Los Angeles. In addition to defeating No. 3 seed Marc Gicquel, Ball became the first qualifier in tournament history to reach the final and subsequently climbed from No. 205 to No. 145 in the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings.

The qualifying rounds of the Tail USTA $50,000 Savannah Challenger begin on Saturday, May 1, and the finals take place on Sunday, May 9. In addition to the competition, several special events are planned, including a Kids Day Clinic on Sunday, May 2, a fundraising Pro-Am on Sunday May 2, a Player’s Party on Monday, May 3, and a Ladies Day on Thursday, May 6.

The 2010 Tail USTA $50,000 Savannah Challenger is sponsored by Tail Activewear, a leading brand in women’s golf and tennis apparel. The Savannah Challenger and all special activities are open to the public. For a complete list of players competing in the tournament and for more information on the tournament, ticket prices and the special events, please visit www.SavannahChallenger.com

New Patent License, The Hanger Glove, prevents clothing from slipping and eliminates shoulder marks, the first on the market to do both

Posted by mysavannah on April 7, 2010

Andrea Howard’s Hanger Glove Receives Patent License http://www.hangerglove.com

(SAVANNAH, GA) A patent for a new type of closet accessory has recently been granted to Andrea Howard of Savannah, Georgia.

Hanger Glove is a uniquely formulated hanger cover made with neoprene and a special fabric, which prevents clothing from slipping and eliminates shoulder marks, the first on the market to do both. The flexibility of Hanger Glove allows customers to recycle their previous hangers, making it an efficient and environmentally friendly new product.

“I never felt like I was asking too much to be able to purchase a product like the Hanger Glove,” Andrea Howard, creator of Hanger Glove, said. “All I wanted was something that would keep my clothes on the hangers, off my closet floor, not leave shoulder bumps and sag marks, and allow me to recycle my existing hangers. How hard could it be?”

After searching for solutions and finding none, Howard took matters into her own hands. She created various prototypes of the Hanger Glove, in different colors and shapes, testing them with her friends and family. Just as she had hoped, the Hanger Glove became the perfect solution, by turning the impractical hangers she already owned into valuable hangers she could actually use.

“Now every time I flip through my closet deciding what to wear, nothing slips off the hanger and onto the floor. The Hanger Glove was my investment in the care of my family’s clothes,” Andrea Howard said.
For additional details about Hanger Glove, please visit Andrea Howard’s website, www.hangerglove.com.

American Ion to hold ribbon cutting event April 14 in Savannah, Georgia

Posted by mysavannah on April 6, 2010

(PHOTOS BELOW OF THE OWNERS)
www.breathethebenefits.com

(SAVANNAH, GA) American Ion, the Savannah-based company providing a natural, proven method for improving indoor air quality, will hold a ribbon cutting Wednesday, April 14, at 11 a.m. at 108 Shipyard Road.

American Ion’s product, the Ion Generator, provides a natural way to improve indoor air quality for individual homes and businesses. With indoor air pollution as one of the Environmental Protection Agency’s top five environmental health risks the Ion Generator uses a unique air freshening system, a method of proven technology that is for the first time being made more accessible to consumers.

Along with reducing the accumulation of dust significantly American Ion’s President Sherwin Prescott said the Ion Generator would help control the following irritants:
*Pet odors
*Cleaning solution smells, ammonia, chlorine
*Moth ball smells
*Cooking odors
*Musty smells
*Dust

Using the Ion Generator will significantly reduce pet dander and dust and it kills mold spores, viruses and bacteria, offering some home allergy and pollen relief because what is “not in the air is not going to be in your lungs,” said Prescott.

Prescott and Seckinger formed American Ion in 2009 after both men used the Ion Generator and were impressed by the results. www.breathethebenefits.com

Prior to now, the equipment was so large, maintenance-intensive and expensive that only large central HVAC systems in sports arenas, casinos and other very large buildings could use it.

“We have simply found a way to overcome the size, maintenance and cost issues to where the American Ion Generator will fit in any size central air conditioning system made on the face of this planet at an affordable price and requires no maintenance,” Prescott said.

To learn more about the Ion Generator go to www.breathethebenefits.com or call 912-354-3777.
