Experts with Celia Dunn Sotheby’s International Realty have received certification in short sales and foreclosures.

Posted by mysavannah on March 28, 2010

(SAVANNAH) – Short sales and foreclosures have received a lot of
attention in the past year for the great deals they can offer, but
buyers often later realize the complex transactions can have pitfalls
for those without expert help. In order to provide that assistance,
the National Association of Realtors developed a certification program
in short sales and foreclosures. Several Savannah and Bluffton/Hilton
Head South Carolina Lowcountry real estate experts with Celia Dunn
Sotheby’s International Realty have received certification in short
sales and foreclosures.
The real estate experts are Lynne Bozeman, Marion Callaway, Ted
Clarke, Bob Dixon, Celia Dunn, Carolyn Ezelle, Lucy Hitch, Lu
Hostetter, Helen Williams Johnson, Susan Myers, Margaret Pearl, Sally
Robinson, Tom Sharpe , Lavinia Strong, Pam Sutton, Lauren Tomhave and
Lee Wilkes.
“It’s always important to have an experienced real estate
professional on your side looking out for your best interests, but I
think it’s even more important to have the guidance of an expert
Realtor these days, especially if you’re venturing into short
sales or foreclosures,” said Celia Dunn of Celia Dunn Sotheby’s
International Realty. “There are benefits but also risks to
those sales, and you need someone who understands all the complex
minutiae. We saw this certification as a way to give even better
service.”
The program includes training on how to manage short-sale,
foreclosure, and real-estate owned transactions, and provides
resources to help Realtors stay current on national and state-specific
information as the market for these distressed properties evolves.
Short sales and foreclosures can be complicated and risky without the
advice of a trained Realtor who knows the possible pitfalls of these
transactions. Although foreclosure situations are sad and unfortunate,
when a foreclosure purchase takes place, it helps the surrounding area
recover more quickly.
Known for its tradition of integrity, Celia Dunn Sotheby’s
International Realty specializes in residential and commercial
properties in Savannah and the Low Country of Georgia and South
Carolina. Founded in 1981, Celia Dunn Sotheby’s International Realty
is noted for outstanding service to its clients, thorough knowledge of
Savannah and the South Carolina Low Country, and excellent staff, in
addition to having one of the region’s top property management
departments. Celia Dunn Sotheby’s International Realty is a member of
Who’s Who in Luxury Real Estate. The owners are natives of
Savannah who have more than 60 years’ combined experience in real
estate. The offices are located at 9, 13, and 17 West Charlton Street
on Madison Square in Savannah and 6 Bruin Street in Bluffton, S.C.

For more information, call Celia Dunn Sotheby’s International Realty

Seafood Festival on Tybee Island, April 8 – 11, 2010

Posted by mysavannah on March 27, 2010

Tybee Island’s Seafood Festival

-Now Fact Not Fiction-

By Ross Howard

March 26,2010

Tybee Island, Ga

Tybee Island has its first Seafood Festival. Ask any Tybee resident if they have ever been to a Seafood Festival on Tybee and believe it or not, the answer is NO. No one can remember, in recent years, there ever being a seafood festival on “Georgia’s Peach of a Beach”. Yet there are many great restaurants on the island and the demand for good seafood certainly warrants exploring the concept of a festival surrounding the delectable “catch” off the Georgia coast.

In the summer of 2009 a movie crew invaded Tybee’s beautiful beaches to make a movie called “The Last Song”. The screenplay, written by Nicholas Sparks, called for scenes with a carnival surrounding a fictitious 37th annual Tybee Island Seafood Festival. I remember walking around the area during the filming and being approached by tourists inquiring about the festival and where and when they could attend. But in reality the signs posted were fictitious.

Now Tybee is hosting its First, 37th Annual Seafood Festival. Similar to the movie set in nature; the event will feature carnival rides, and great seafood. Unlike the movie, the food is real and anyone can pay to ride the rides. Scheduled to begin with the rides on April 8 and culminate on Sunday April 11, the festival will feature rides adjacent to Butler Avenue (not on the beach as was the case with the movie) and an all day Seafood Festival on Saturday April 10. The event is sponsored by Chatham County, Southern Eagle Distributing , Coca Cola and the Ocean Plaza. For a list of additional sponsors and Schedule dates and restaurants participating see the web site at www.tybeeseafoodfest.com.

This comes on the heels of the release of the movie, “The Last Song” featuring Miley Cyrus and Greg Kinnear. The entertainment on Saturday will include the “Sapphire Bullets of Pure Love”, featuring the Bonaventure Horns from Thunderbolt providing great R & B music. So come on out for the FIRST 37th Annual Tybee Island Seafood Festival, we’ll save a seat for you.

STEVEN EAGLE TO CHAIR THE LIGHT THE NIGHT WALK FOR THE LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY

Posted by mysavannah on March 23, 2010

Savannah ––The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society announced today that
C. Steven Eagle, Managing Partner of Seacrest Partners, Inc., a privately-held insurance brokerage and employee benefits consulting firm, will serve as this year’s Walk Chairman for The Georgia Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual Light The Night® Walk. The walk will be held in Savannah at Forsyth Park on Friday, October 15, 2010.

As Chairman for the Light The Night Walk, Mr. Eagle will invite all Savannah area companies to join in the fight against blood cancer by forming corporate teams and participating in the Light The Night Walk. Additionally, he will host a corporate breakfast this summer to ask other leaders in the community to join him in this fight.
“Light The Night is extremely important to me. I know how The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society raises the funds that literally save people’s lives,” said Eagle. “I am honored to serve as chairman and will encourage the Savannah community to join me in taking strides to save lives.”
While advances in treatments have vastly improved survival rates for some forms of blood cancer, more than 53,000 people will die of leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma this year. Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under age 20.
“Every four minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer and every ten minutes someone dies from it,” said Dick Brown, Executive Director of the Georgia Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. “The Light The Night campaign helps bring hope to thousands of patients and their families. We are thrilled that Mr. Eagle is serving as our Walk Chairman. In addition to Light The Night, he has also volunteered in our Regatta event with great success. We are confident his leadership and inspiration in this year’s Light The Night Walk will be vital to our efforts to make a difference.”
In Georgia, Light The Night’s fundraising efforts have grown from $460,000 in 2003 to more than $1.9 million in 2009. Last year, Savannah’s Light The Night walk raised $115,000 to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. During the event, walkers carry an illuminated balloon along the two mile walk route. Cancer patients and survivors will carry white balloons as “lights of hope,” supporters carry red balloons and those walking in remembrance of someone carry gold balloons. This year, The Society will host five Light The Night Walks throughout Georgia. For more information, visit http://www.lightthenight.org/ga or call 912-897-1300.

Non Slip Hangers

Posted by mysavannah on March 22, 2010

New Product, Hanger Glove, Offers High Quality at a Reasonable Price

(SAVANNAH, GA) Savannah local Andrea Howard is proud to announce the official release of her product the Hanger Glove, a new invention which offers an easy way to recycle clothes hangers into an all-purpose closet accessory.

Hanger Glove is a sleek-looking clothes hanger cover made out of high-quality Neoprene, a remarkably flexible fabric used in wetsuits. This material allows Hanger Glove to stretch to fit over any type of clothes hanger, while the unique design helps prevent clothing from slipping and eliminates unsightly stretching or shoulder bumps.

http://www.hangerglove.com

“I have used the Hanger Glove with some of my worst culprits, strappy tank tops, v-neck blouses and heavy sweaters. It has been a huge help,” said Natali Johnson, a customer from Atlanta, Georgia. “Now, when I search through my crowded closet, the strappy tops have not slipped off the hanger. The v-neck blouses, with their slippery material, have stayed so secure I have cut out the disruptive hanger strings. Unexpectedly, it also keeps the shape to my heavy sweaters; the shoulders don’t get pulled and warped over time. This product is a huge step up from the ineffective pink pads and wrinkling clips.”

At less than five dollars a piece, this simple yet versatile closet accessory makes a great investment for people interested in both a well-organized closet and a tidy appearance. Hanger Glove is available on Andrea Howard’s website, hangerglove.com, and can be purchased individually or in a value pack of three.

About Hanger Glove
Hanger Glove was born out of a woman’s frustration while trying to clean her closet. Andrea Howard, a Savannah local for more than forty years, came to the conclusion that no hanger on the market could prevent clothing from slipping while eliminating shoulder marks. She used her creativity and previous experience from the advertising industry to create a product that could meet those needs, while allowing women to recycle their current clothes hangers. Hanger Glove’s goal is to provide a simple, yet practical solution to problems associated with ordinary clothes hangers.

Lois Masteller emailed this wonderful article: Great Minds Don’t Think Alike

Posted by mysavannah on March 9, 2010

Ray Silverstein: Leadership
Great Minds Don’t Think Alike
Strategies for cultivating a free-thinking, collaborative company culture
By Ray Silverstein | February 22, 2010

Harmony and consensus are beautiful things. But when you’re trying to grow a business, too much consensus can be deadly. If you want to be an effective leader, encourage your employees to think for themselves, not follow you blindly.
Admittedly, it’s tempting to hire people who think the same way you do. You speak the same language, which makes it easier to avoid day-to-day conflicts. It’s also gratifying, ego-wise, to surround yourself with people whagree with you.

But, surrounding yourself with “Mini-Mes” only stifles innovation, and new ideas are vital to continued growth.

Collaboration–the mingling of different viewpoints–beats consensus any day. And as your company’s leader, it’s your job to make that happen.
So, how do you encourage freethinking in the workplace? Here are some techniques that some members of my peer advisory groups use:

1. Encourage your employees to offer suggestions. After all, who knows the ins and outs of your business better? Whether through an old-fashioned suggestion box or a special email address, there needs to be a dedicated process for soliciting employee input.
2. Recognize and reward your employees’ best ideas. It doesn’t have to be a huge reward to be powerful. Whether it’s a premium parking space for your “Great Thinker of the Month” or a paid day-off, recognition works. Prime the pump by implement as many suggestions as you can, even some of the weaker ones.
3. Cultivate a culture of collaboration and innovation. Hold interdepartmental brainstorming sessions. Make sure employees know how to give each other positive, constructive feedback. Provide training if necessary.
4. Take action against negativity. Be careful that your collaborative efforts don’t foster an environment where employees badmouth each other. This tends to shut people down. If you have an organization destroyer in your midst–someone who consistently undercuts morale–take action, even if that person is one of your top performers.
5. Take note of your own management style. When an employee makes a suggestion, is your knee-jerk reaction to quickly shoot them down? Train yourself to respond in a more positive way and be more open to new ideas.
6. Let employees run meetings. Instead of running every meeting yourself, let your employees take turns being chairperson. This encourages others to talk and gets you in the habit of listening. Remember, as the boss, you are by nature intimidating. Your staff is pre-programmed to defer to you. You won’t invite anarchy by occasionally leveling the playing field.
7. Hiring different kinds of thinkers from diverse backgrounds. Look for candidates whose strengths and styles complement rather than mirror your own. Of course, they must share your moral standards, work ethics, and fit into the company culture, but that’s a different story.

The point is, you never know where–or from whom–your next great idea is coming from. Be the kind of leader that encourages innovation.
Banish the expression “Great minds think alike.” I like this one by General George Patton better: “If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn’t thinking.”
Ray Silverstein is the president of PRO: President’s Resource Organization, a network of peer advisory boards for small business owners. He is author of two books: The Best Secrets of Great Small Businesses and the new Small Business Survival Guide: How to Survive (and Thrive) in Tough Times. He can be reached at 1-800-818-0150 or ray@propres.com.
