Innovative Awards 2008 ROCKED Savannah on Friday night
Posted by mysavannah on October 26, 2008
Over 500 people bought tickets for the Innovative Awards held at the Round House in Savannah, GA. We also had 4 inches of rain that evening.
Left to right: Antony Wagner of Melaver, Inc. (a sustainable real estate and consulting company) and Malik Wakins of the Carl Vincent Institute – and me.
There were 3 huge screens, just like a rock concert. Stage Front Presentation Systems designed and put together the stage and the sound system- it was WONDERFUL!
Savannah Country Day and Southern Environmental Law Center were both finalists for the Sustainability Award.
Fitz Haile and I co-chaired the event. We have been meeting with our board since March.

5am on Galway Lake, NY
Posted by mysavannah on October 20, 2008
It has been a wonderful birthday week. Carol and I rented an A frame cabin on Galway Lake, NY to celebrate her 21st birthday. The cabin is about an hour from RPI, Troy, NY where she goes to school, so we were able to commute it each morning. http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/27961.html
I looked out the plate-glass window this morning and saw the big dipper. I remember when I was 21, my mom and I found the big dipper together.
Continental flight totally booked, so I’m flying home today on US AIR. Busy work week ahead and a big party on Friday. There will be 500 people attending the Innovative Awards in Savannah – I chaired it this year.
Carol – I am already missing you. Look forward to your home visit over Thanksgiving.
…time to wake Carol up and head to Troy, then Savannah

Parent Council meeting at Rensselaer today
Posted by mysavannah on October 18, 2008
Family Day at Rensselaer today http://www.rpi.edu
We also had our Parent Council Board meeting at 8:30am. They voted to support a SMOKE-FREE campus act. I am in charge of presenting our request to the administration at RPI, in hopes of making this happen by Jan 1, 2009, or sooner.
Carol and I have had a perfect week in upstate NY. We rented an A frame cottage on Galway Lake, about an hour from Troy, NY. Each morning we drove past the most spectacular foliage – red – yellow – orange.
This morning as I climbed up the hill to get in my little white rental car, I had to scrape ICE from the windshield. Of course I didn’t have an ice scraper, so I used my CVS card.

Sign on Tybee Island
Posted by mysavannah on October 14, 2008
This sign on Tybee Island shows that a category 1 hurricane would cause a tidal surge to the top of my head. A category 2 hurricane would be way over my head.
Great education piece.

What is this on TYBEE? Is that Luke Skywalker on top?

Ann took this photo at the MXP airport
Posted by mysavannah on October 11, 2008
I got up at 5am, with jet lag. Drove down to Starbucks on Broughton Street and met Gabe Garcia to talk about a “green” process called, CLAY WALLS. At 10 I walked over to the Jepson Center for my weekly portrait painting class. So far, my first portrait I did a month ago, is my favorite. Afterward, Doug and I took our instructor to lunch at B&D Burgers. We ran into Steve Wagner and his Kids, Ben Crystal and his new girl friend, Robin Gunn, and Elliott Day – fun to see Broughton Street so alive

My favorite town in Italy, Varenna!
Posted by mysavannah on October 7, 2008
I took this photo from the ferry – coming back from Bellagio
Varenna “beach”
In the summer time, there is a little “beach” in the center of town. You can sit at a cafe, and then jump in the lake to cool off.
Lover’s walk.. from the Boat Station to the center of Varenna
Italian Roof Tops
I took this picture leaving Varenna, going to Lecco, on the LOCAL train that hugs Lake Como
