Giovanna and I took the 10:45 train from Lecco to Milano

Posted by mysavannah on September 30, 2008

We managed to take the Metro to San Babila and then find Al Circolo Della Stampa C Veniezia 16 where Rotary was held. Lunch was in a room that Napoleone Bonaparte once stood in.  Amazing palace.

I sat with the President of the Milan Rotary. He is also President of Mediocredito Italiano.

As we were leaving the train station, they announced there would be a strike at 6pm.  Made it back to Lake Como just in time.

On the walk back to the apartment, I stopped at the grocery store and bought my brother a kilo of coffee and parmeasean cheese. I hope I am allowed to bring it on the plane.

My Aunt Ann and I flew to Italy for the Battesimo of my God son, Gabriele

Posted by mysavannah on September 28, 2008

Aunt Ann and I decided to fly out of National Airport in DC and not BWI last Thursday. The traffic on the beltway was horrible, but there were more seats open out of DC, going to Newark. Once we landed in Newark, we met up with my brother at Starbucks. Unfortunately, he could not go on this trip – he had to work. Ann and I then spent the rest of the time in the President’s Club talking to a fella from England on how to avoid jet lag.

At 5pm we boarded the 767 for Milano. There were a lot of open seats. The flight was perfect and Uncle Chris and Aunt Giovanna met us at Malpesa MXP the following morning. I fell asleep on the ride back to the house.

Saturday I got my haircut from Marco – he is the best!

The Battesimo started at 3PM today. Everybody drove to the house in Annone Brianza and walked to the church. The Baptism took a full hour – lovely service. From there we walked over to Antico Borgo for a huge family party. The lawn was very green, with tables and chairs under the trees. In the distance you could see the alps. It looked like a movie set.

I didn’t stay in Annone, there is no Internet there. I got a ride back to Lecco, with my cousin Ina. Need to finish  Community Headlines for tomorrow morning. At some point I will try and find a Rotary Club to go to, maybe in Milano or Lake Como.
