Caution: don’t wear a SKIRT in a simulator

Posted by mysavannah on June 23, 2008

Carol and I stood in line at the Air and Space Museum in DC, to take a 3 minute ride in a simulator.

Carol was the pilot and I was the “gunner.”

They buckled us in and pulled down the roll bar.

Ten seconds into the ride, Carol rolled the fighter jet to the right. WE WENT UP SIDE DOWN. Once she got the hang of it, she rolled it again. This time I landed on the control stick, so she had to roll it to the other side to dislodge me.

She rolled the plane 4 times in three minutes. I was upside down, unable to see because my black skirt was above my head,

Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia

Posted by mysavannah on June 21, 2008

In the 1970s my mother, Carol Stuart Watson, painted a slide show about the history of Harper’s Ferry, for the National Park Service. They used to show it at the Visitor’s Center.

My daughter and I drove to the park yesterday to see if we could find out what happened to her art work. Two nice women, one who remembered my mother, are going to find out.

It would be great to have an art show of all my mother’s work.

Yesterday we walked up to Jefferson’s Rock and today my legs are sore. I’m not used to hills, living in Savannah.

This afternoon I got a notice from EmergencyEmail.org

Posted by mysavannah on June 19, 2008

EmergencyEmail is a great free service, that I subscribed to a few months ago, at the suggestion of my friend Joe Ippolito.

Today, I got an email saying that a tornado had been spotted on Isle of Hope. I then got a call from my next store neighbor asking if we were ok? He said that downed trees were blocking both roads onto Isle of Hope. Then Diana called and said that trees are down all over Montgomery Crossroads. “Horrible mess!”

Joe heard that the dome at city hall had damage.

I just got off the phone with Susan, she said that the outdoor pavilion at Lake Mayer and the church’s steeple across the street from the lake, were both destroyed.

Electricity is out, of course, and probably won’t be on for awhile.

Maybe the full, RED moon last night was foreshadowing of the big storm today.

Kayaking from the Isle of Hope Marina

Posted by mysavannah on June 18, 2008

Yesterday evening my daughter Carol and I took the kayaks out on the Inter Coastal Waterway. We paddled up to Burnt Pot Island. On the way back we stopped at the community dock by Wymberly and tied up our boats – and then went swimming, We met a nice mom who was also swimming by the dock. It was her last day at teaching school.

By the time we got back to the Isle of Hope Marina, it was dark with a full RED moon.
