Years in Profession: 13
Words of Wisdom: “Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained”

Marjorie Young is President and founder of Carriage Trade Public Relations, Inc. Established in 1995, Carriage Trade PR is a high-tech PR firm, that helps a business increase their visibility in the community and online.

TEN THINGS THAT MARJORIE IS GRATEFUL FOR:

1. Being a Stay-at-Home Mom
Her daughter Carol, now a senior at Rennsselar Polytechnic Institute, majoring in aeronautical engineering, has always come first. Marjorie methodically grew her business while working from home and raising her daughter on Isle of Hope. She didn’t get her downtown office on Telfair Square until Carol left for college.

2. Family
When her mother died very young of lung cancer, her Aunts and Uncles stepped in and greatly impacted her life.

3. Entrepreneurial Parents
Marjorie was very inspired by her parents who owned and operated publishing and printing businesses in Washington, DC, Her firm is named “Carriage Trade PR” in their honor. Carriage Trade is an old Colonial term which means ‘elite clientele.’

4. Clients
Marjorie has the “Carriage Trade” of clientele in the Savannah business community. CarriageTradePR exclusively represents only one client per industry, that she truly believes in. She becomes their cheerleader within the community.

5. Good Health and Easy Living
Enjoys kayaking from the Isle of Hope Marina up to Skidaway Island, then coming home to her toy poodle Jefferson, and two tabby cats, Amelia and Ari.

6. Simplicity
Over the years Marjorie has streamlined her entire existence. Less is more.

7. Traveling the World
Her business operation allows her to work from anywhere, as long as there is an Internet connection. She recently spent two months working from Lake Como, Italy, where coincidentally she saw George Clooney in a Mexican restaurant.

8. Pearls
The name Marjorie means Pearls in old Greek. Her mother always gave her pearls for special occasions. She never leaves home without them.

9. The Carriage Trade PR Visibility Team
Amy, Angela, Anne, April, Bambi, Brittny, Burton, Chris, David, Elizabeth, Erin, Hannah, Jennifer, Jenny, Jessica, JR, Joe, Katie, Kim, Leigh, Melanie, Myandi, Rose, and Roy.

10. Her Business Support Team
She is grateful for the support she gets from her Women Board of Directors; Diana, Linda and Lois, SBDC, Lynn Voss, the S.C.O.R.E. Boys, The Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, The Small Business Chamber and Buy Local Savannah.

Marjorie has been honored with numerous
prestigious awards throughout her career. In 2006 she
was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Savannah
Area Chamber of Commerce. She dedicated the award to
her father who was in the audience with Stage IV lung cancer.

CarriageTradePR has a team of writers, photographers, videographers, web optimizers and media relations, for each client. They help them increase their visibility in the community and online. Press Releases, videos, photos and podcasts about your good news are distributed to the local media and online.

Blowin’ Smoke

Posted by mysavannah on March 27, 2008

SEDA will have a ribbon cutting for this new LOCAL BBQ place on MLK. Fitz Haile and I ate lunch there. Ran into Roger Moss, Tayna at the Savannah Business Tribune, and Jay Self, the film commissioner and a few other familiar faces.
Even though it was a chilly day, everybody sat outside and enjoyed some GREAT BBQ.

Met with Ze, he is an art dealer from Portugal. He has beautiful paintings from very cutting-edge artists around the world.

My blackberry went down for 5 hours last night. Kind of nice to not get any emails for awhile.

Easter Dinner with the homeless at the Old Savannah City Mission (OSCM)

Posted by mysavannah on March 23, 2008

912-232-1979-homeless-savannah.jpghomeless-shelter-oscm-old-savannah-city-mission-on-bull-street.jpg

Over 300 people turned out for Rev. Jim Lewis’ Easter service in the parking lot of Bull and Maupus. At 1:00pm, volunteers started serving a 5 star meal prepared by the OSCM Chef. Over the years, he has been trained by some local master chefs. He started preparing for Easter Dinner 24 hours earlier. In the picture below, he is in the middle.

A group of four men got up and sang to the audience. They were TERRIFIC. I’m going to see if I can get them lined up to sing at various civic organizations. Rotary always starts their weekly meetings with a patriotic song. The Small Business Council has their yearly awards banquet and they always start it off with the Star Spangled Banner.

This is a picture of Brian (below)- he is at the Mission, working in the Thrift Shop. His trade is fishing and told me that he would like to start his own business someday.

One of our newest Public Relations Coordinators is moving to Savannah. I met Jenny and her family at the Easter Dinner. She is in charge of this account. It was great, all 3 tv stations showed up.

Wine Lecture

Posted by mysavannah on March 20, 2008

Celia Dunn Sotheby’s International Realty sponsored a lecture today on wine. Very interesting. He told a cute story about taking his girl friend on a surprise birthday picnic, with fried chicken and champaign.

Hannah did the photography and Chris Helton video taped it.  Afterward I ran into Jack Starr, Jim Carswell and Mehmet Caglayan at Gallery Espresso.

Quiet Dog… too quiet last night

Posted by mysavannah on March 20, 2008

Usually Jefferson coughs throughout the night. Last night he was very quiet. I kept waking up to check on him. He seems to be doing much, much better.  Finally, I got up at 4AM, had breakfast and arrived at the YMCA on Habersham at 5am for a workout.
